Elections & Voting

It is the responsibility of the Village of Hewitt to provide everyone, elderly, handicapped, and people who must be out of town on election day, the right to vote.

 

The Village of Hewitt will hold elections per Wisconsin Statutes 5.01. The right to vote is the foundation of our democratic form of government. It is the job of the Village Clerk to preserve the rights of the electorate through efficient, honest, unbiased, and uniform administration of elections. All election officials have a responsibility to help, not hinder, electors in exercising their voting rights. The integrity and importance of the vote of each citizen is the responsibility of all election officials.

Elections are held in April of each year, preceded by a February primary if there are more than two candidates for the same office.

     

Polling Place

The polling place for Village of Hewitt residents is the Town of Marshfield Hall, located on Main Street.

   

Voter Registration

If you are a first-time voter, changed address or have a name change, you will be required to fill out a "Wisconsin Voter Registration Application" before you will be able to vote.  You will need to provide a Photo ID, as well as the "Proof of Residence".  Your name and address must be on one of the Proof of Residence.

 

It is acceptable to print and fill out the Wisconsin Voter Registration Application prior to coming to the election.  Fill out questions 1-10 and bring along with Photo ID and Proof of Residence.  Voter Registration Application forms will also be available at the polling location on the day of elections.

Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots are available for individuals who will not be able to attend their regular polling location during an election. It is important to know that absentee voters must also be registered voters.

 

The first step to obtaining an absentee ballot is to complete an Application for Absentee Ballot. This must be done by contacting the Village Clerk in writing. Absentee ballots, which are available approximately three weeks prior to the election, are mailed to the voter for completion and then mailed back to the Village Clerk, or can be completed at the polling place.
