Campfire/Wood Burning Permit

   
PERMITS:
  Campfire/wood-burning pits are required to be inspected and registered with the Village of Hewitt Fire Department.  There is no fee for the inspection or permit.

RECYCLABLE MATERIALS - UNLAWFUL BURNING:  It shall be unlawful for the person to burn solid waste and recyclable materials on residential or non-residential properties.  Only clean wood and combustible materials used to ignite clean wood shall be permitted to be burned.  (Flammable or combustible liquids shall not be used to ignite a fire).

SIZE:  The size of the campfire shall not exceed 3' x 3' or 3 feet in diameter.

LOCATION:  A campfire/wood-burning pit shall be located not less than 25 feet from any structure.

SUPERVISION:  Open burning shall be constantly attended by a competent person at least 18 years of age until such fire is extinguished.  This person shall have available extinguishing equipment to put out the fire if needed.

CONSTRUCTION:  A campfire/wood-burning pit will be contained by a permanent non-combustible material such as rock, brick, steel, etc.

PROHIBITION:  Burning will not be allowed and all permits are discontinued when dry weather or windy conditions dictate the need.  Conditions shall be verified at http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/forestfire/restrictions.html.

LIABILITY:  All smoke, heat, or other products of combustion that result from burning are the responsibility of the person burning.  All complaints will be investigated and if the complaint is warranted the fire will be extinguished and the permit revoked.  If the fire department responds to a residence for a campfire extinguishment all customary charges will be billed to the resident.

VIOLATIONS:  Any person failing to acquire permits or failing to follow the above provisions will be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $25.00 or more than $250.00 in accordance with Ordinance 12.10 of the Village of Hewitt.

I hereby attest that I am at least 18 years old and am authorized to set campfires in a wood-burning pit at the above address and subject to the conditions above.  I grant my permission for the Hewitt Area Fire Department to come on my property to inspect the fire pit.  I further agree to use all possible care in controlling fires under this permit and will be responsible for any and all damage done by such fires.
